12:13 am - On a personal note...

Some of you know me and some of you don't. I'm William Hillard, webmaster for the website CityofLivermore.net. While I try to keep this website fairly free of politics, I have something to say about our exiting Mayor, Eldon Eaton.

Just, bear with me.

You see, earlier this evening (that's December 26, 2006), a bunch of us threw a farewell party for Eldon. As you all know, he will not be returning to City Hall next month. So I want to take this opportunity to say here what I could not say earlier.

You see, many people have a poor opinion of Eldon. But all I know is how he has done by me. So I want to write about that.

Eldon is a strong man of morals and conviction. He's spent his life in service to Livermore since 1984. He cares about our city. And he puts us before himself.

I know this because I've worked with Eldon for nearly a year now. It is because of him that we have this website. It's also because of him that many things have been done.

For example, whenever I went to an area of the city, such as the RV Park or the Riverfront Park to pick up trash, clear away branches or a whole slew of menial chores, Eldon was often there working right beside me.

During this time, Eldon has also told me many tales of Livermore's history. He has a love of our history second to none. If you have some time to kill, ask him about the Civil War sometime. Er... make that a lot of time to kill. He knows facts and details that you're not going to find in your High School History books.

Eldon is also a very even-tempered man. He rarely ever raises his voice, and he thinks about what he says before he says it. How many of us can honestly claim that? I know I can't.

In short, Eldon is an example of what a man should strive to be: Caring, compassionate, loyal, dignified and possessing a sense of duty to one's family, one's friends, one's community, one's country and one's God.

These past 10 months, he has been my pillar and has moved me to do things and try things that I had not thought of before. While I hold no ill will toward our new Mayor Jerry Zeuhl, I will miss Eldon Eaton.

So good luck to you, Eldon, in everything you do. I am now and will always be your friend.

With much love and respect,

William S. Hillard

10:16 pm - Veterans Day Was Great!

We would like to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who attended our annual Veterans Day celebration. We had a very large crowd this year and the feeling of patriotism was awe-inspiring.

We would also like to extend a very special THANK YOU to all of our veterans, past, present and future who have made sacrifices so that we may enjoy our freedom.

It was a great event, and we hope everyone joins us again next year!

Photos of the event can be found at Livermore's Photobucket.
